Karen Massey, MHA, FACMPE, CPMSM
Executive Director, Northern Nevada Emergency Physicians
CMPE-ACMPE Committee- Chair: Jackie Shoupe. The committee will work together to forward the education and commitment of individual NVMGMA members to further their knowledge base and attain certification or fellowship. The committee is composed of CMPE and ACMPE members who will act as mentors to a member wishing to advance their certification. The committee from time to time might put together study groups for the exams.
ACMPE Forum Representative- The ACMPE Forum Representative is responsible for coordinating activities and communication between NV MGMA and national MGMA. The Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) credential confirms expertise and brings greater recognition from physicians, executives, industry professionals and peers. Board certification and Fellowship through the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE)* is based on a body of knowledge specific to medical practice management and is the only board certification and fellowship designation in medical practice management. ACMPE is the certification and fellowship authority of MGMA and has been certifying medical practice executives since 1956.
Membership Committee- The membership committee is responsible for supporting the mission, vision, purpose and strategic plan of the Nevada Medical Group Management Association. The membership committee will collaborate on key strategies focused on membership recruitment and retention for both the North and South chapters of NVMGMA.
Education/Speakers Committee- The goal of the education committee is to provide educational opportunities for the members based on the National MGMA core body of knowledge. The body of knowledge identifies the various knowledge and skills required of today’s medical practice executive based on the eight identified competencies. The committee responsibilities include surveying the members to determine their areas of interest and then seeking qualified individuals as speakers or educators. Speakers may be local talents from various business backgrounds or nationally recognized speakers. Goals include creating a working list of past speakers and topics, having the membership complete evaluations of speakers and help make recommendations to the State Meeting education committee. In addition, the education committee might suggest a budget for paid speakers for board approval.
Director of Business Development and Client Service
State Meeting Committee- Chair: President-Elect of the NVMGMA. The State meeting Committee is comprised of four subcommittees which work together under the President of the NVMGMA to orchestrate the State Meeting. The subcommittees need to communicate often to facilitate planning as all goals are intertwined. Each subcommittee will have its own chair who reports directly to the President. The chairs and the President are responsible for developing a theme. Ideally, these committees remain in place throughout the year.
Venue Committee- Locates and secures the venue approximately 10 months prior to the event. The dates of the event are guarded by the venue availability but generally have been in the spring. Check with National for date approval. Some responsibilities of the committee include meeting with the on-site venue planners to design the venue with the needs of the speakers and the vendors in mind. Choose the menus according to the budget. Secure a block of hotel rooms for the speakers and out of town guests. Secure any electronic media that the speakers are going to require. Coordinate with the Vendor committee to create booth space to accommodate all the vendors. Secure signage and easels for the speakers outside of each room. Decorate as appropriate.
Registration Committee- Creates the brochures and distributes them to members and nonmembers. The committee works closely with the State Treasurer, monitoring registration. Creates nametags and secures from national the ribbons for speakers, vendors, State Officers, CMPE and ACMPE. Members are available to greet guests as they arrive and conduct member evaluations of the meeting.
Vendor Committee- Recruits vendor sponsors for the event and sends out the vendor packets. The vendor committee works closely with the venue committee to design the vendor exhibit hall. The Committee pays attention to the needs of the vendors throughout the meeting. Creates the treasure map and conduct vendor evaluations after the meeting. The chief of the Vendor Committee might ideally be a vendor, but the committee itself should be comprised of regular members who have contacts with area vendors.
