2016 Compliance Issues for Physicians and Medical Groups
The most important compliance areas in 2016 for medical practices are defined by the plans and priorities of enforcement agencies, including: (1) ongoing major audit and enforcement efforts that will continue into 2016; and (2) currently proposed new investigational efforts.
Enforcement agencies covered include the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Agency priorities and activities discussed include (1) Billing, Coding and Reimbursement; (2) Fraud and Abuse; (3) HIPAA and Meaningful Use. In addition, one of the “hottest” physician concerns (as opposed to a group concern) is whether a group physician can be held individually and financially liable for violations and fines levied or assessed on the group by regulatory agencies.
