Nevada MGMA Monthly Meeting:
Topic: 2016 - 2017 Compliance Issues for Physicians and Medical Groups
Speaker: Kelly Testolin, Attorney at Law, Specializing in Healthcare Law | www.kellytestolin.com
Domain for the Body of Knowledge: Risk and Compliance Management
Summary: The most important compliance areas for 2016 - 2017 for medical practices are defined by the plans and priorities of enforcement agencies, including: (1) ongoing major audit and enforcement efforts that will continue into 2016 and 2017; and (2) recently proposed new investigational efforts.
Enforcement agencies covered include the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Among the government’s priorities and activities to be discussed are (1) Billing, Coding and Reimbursement; (2) Fraud and Abuse; (3) HIPAA and Meaningful Use. In addition, one of the “hottest” physician concerns (as opposed to a group concern) is whether a group physician can be held individually and financially liable for violations and fines levied or assessed on the group by regulatory agencies.
