Description:The speakers will give an overview of what happened during the 2019 Nevada Legislature, plus trends and what issues to expect with healthcare legislation for the next session. Members are encouraged to attend to better understand issues and provide feedback to assist Catherine and Karen in communication with legislators, staff and other stakeholders.

Catherine M. O'Mara, JD
Executive Director, Nevada State Medical Association
Catherine O’Mara has been Executive Director of the Nevada State Medical Association since October 2015. Prior to joining NSMA, Catherine spent four years as an associate attorney at Snell & Wilmer law firm specializing in government relations and business litigation.
Catherine attended Loyola Marymount University (B.A.) and George Washington University (M.A.). While in Washington D.C., she worked in the offices of Representative Jim Gibbons and Senator John Ensign handling a variety of legislation affecting Nevadans. In 2007, she lobbied the Nevada legislature on behalf of the Ferraro Group, and in 2008, she was a legal extern for the Honorable Brian Sandoval in the U.S. District Court of Nevada.
Catherine earned her law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where she was selected by her classmates to give the commencement address. As a proud native Nevadan, she serves on the boards for the Community Health Alliance, Girls on the Run- Sierras, and Bishop Manogue Catholic High School Alumni Association.
Karen Massey, MHA, FACMPE, CPMSM
Executive Director, Northern Nevada Emergency Physicians and Chair, Nevada MGMA Legislative Affairs Committee
Karen Massey has been the Executive Director of Northern Nevada Emergency Physicians since 2000 and Chair of the Nevada MGMA Legislative Affairs Committee since 2011. Prior to her current position, she was Manager, Medical Staff Services at Renown Health.
Karen received a BS in Economics from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Southern California
As a Fellow in the American College of Practice Management Executives, Karen has been active in both the Nevada MGMA and national MGMA, including participation in national MGMA Annual and national MGMA State Leaders conferences. Karen currently sits on the Board of Northern Nevada HOPES, and has been a board member of the Emergency Physician Insurance Company RRG for the past 10 years.
